The initial step is contacting Veteran Affairs at 1-888-442-4551or www.gibill.va.gov in order acquiring which benefits you qualify. You may be eligible for one or multiples of the following: 1. Chapter 30 – Montgomery Gi Bill (Active or Reserve Duty); 2. Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation; 3. Chapter 32 – Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP); Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 Gi Bill; 4. Chapter 34 – Vietnam Era Gi Bill; 5. Chapter 35 – Educational benefits for dependents of disabled/deceased veterans; and 6. Chapter 1606/1607 – Reservist Educational Benefits.
On the Veterans Affairs website (www.gibill.va.gov) under the category For Students, there is a selection titled CareerScope. CareerScope is an aptitude and interest assessment at no cost to all eligible benefits recipients. Veterans have utilized CareerScope frequently in determining best career path for transition into civilian life as well as enhancing their military career.
Once obtaining your educational documentation from Veteran Affairs; enroll at BRCC, schedule classes, and complete Veteran Affair’s verification form for VA benefits. After form completion, turn in the VA verification form along with a copy of your detailed class schedule to BRCC’s Veteran Affairs & Military Services Manager; Mr. Anthony L. Thompson, Sr. He is located in the Bienvenue Student Center, Financial Aid Department, room 113. His office number is 225-216-8007. Mr. Thompson will certify your application on Veteran Affairs’ Online Certification of Enrollment (VA-Once) system.
Extremely Important: All paperwork must be submitted TWO WEEKS before the start of classes. Any paper work received after the start of classes will be considered late and payment of benefits may be delayed. In this case, please make necessary payment arrangements to secure your classes.
