Neighbors Federal Credit Union (NFCU) recently made a generous $10,000 donation to Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) and the BRCC Foundation to champion student success through scholarships. The scholarship awards, specifically aimed at advancing the educational pursuits of student-athletes at BRCC, were presented during a special luncheon hosted on November 28.

About the scholarship recipients:

During the luncheon, four exceptional BRCC student-athletes were honored with scholarships, recognizing their academic and athletic excellence. The scholarship recipients were: Jacob Barry, Janae Pierce, Owen Ponthieux, and Sevihun Turner.

Jacob Barry, majoring in General Science, plays on the BRCC Men’s Basketball team. A native of the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies, Barry has a passion for video games and music creation. His ambition is to pursue a professional athletic career, showcasing his talents on a global stage.

Janae Pierce, a Baltimore, Maryland native, is excelling in her major in Construction Management while playing for the BRCC Women’s Basketball team. Pierce's interests in architecture and graphic design complement her future aspirations to major in Construction Management and minor in Architecture at a four-year university.

Owen Ponthieux, from Krotz Springs, LA, is also a Construction Management major and plays on  the BRCC Baseball team. His love for baseball is matched by his enthusiasm for hunting and fishing. Owen plans to continue his major in Construction Management at a four-year university, building a strong foundation for his future.

Sevihun Turner, a Fine Arts major and a member of the Men’s Basketball team, hails from Baton Rouge, LA. His hobbies include basketball, video games, and music, aligning with his future goal to major in Music Production at a four-year university.
