Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay DardenneLouisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne will serve as the spring 2023 commencement speaker at Baton Rouge Community College’s 27thCommencement ceremony Tuesday, May 23, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Raising Canes River Center, 275 S. River Rd. Degrees will be conferred to students who completed their studies this past spring and last fall. Friends, family and members of the public are invited to attend. “Commencement is a special day for our college, our graduates, and their families and we are honored to have Commissioner Dardenne as our speaker,” said BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith. “Jay has had a distinguished career of public service and has made significant contributions to the betterment of our citizens and state. He has given back to Louisiana in so many ways, and we look forward to having him encourage our graduates and celebrate their success.” 

Dardenne is Louisiana’s Commissioner of Administration, the state’s chief administrative and operating officer.

He was elected statewide four times, twice as Secretary of State and twice as Lieutenant Governor. He served 15 years as a State Senator and three years as a Baton Rouge Metro Councilman. 

He created, wrote and hosted “Why Louisiana Ain’t Mississippi…..Or Any Place Else,” a four-hour documentary for Louisiana Public Broadcasting, and authored the coffee table book that accompanies the show.

He is a member of several halls of fame including the LSU Hall of Distinction and the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame.
