What is Power-Based Violence (PBV)?
In accordance with Louisiana Act 472 (2021 Regular Session) and LCTCS Policy #9.001, power-based violence is defined as: Power-Based violence is any form of interpersonal violence intended to control or intimidate another person through an assertion of power over the person. The core of PBV is one person forcing their will on another. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Sexual Assault (any sexual act without consent)
- Dating & Domestic Violence (a pattern of abusive behavior by a partner, friend, or family member)
- Stalking (repeated, unwanted attention that causes fear)
- Sexual Harassment (unwelcome sexual advances or conduct)
- Retaliation (punishing someone for reporting an incident)
