Baton Rouge Community College Process Technology Program (PTEC) held its Certificate of Technical Studies ceremony for students earning their Process Technology Support Technicians certification.  The ceremony was held Wednesday, October 18, at the Central Site to recognize 15 students for their achievements. Most of the students plan to continue their studies at BRCC to obtain their Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology. Professors Ben Stove and Ralph Butler facilitated the event.

They work in many industries including, but not limited to, the chemical, petroleum, mineral processing, and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, process technicians will be involved in some basic engineering practices. General process technician methods might include being able to start up a process, shut down a process, diagnose problems, order maintenance and restore repaired equipment to working order. Process Technicians help design, control, operate, and troubleshoot specialized processes central to the business activities of their employer. Their primary duty is to optimize a specialized process and keep it on track, even if problems arise.

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Process Technology (PTEC) program is a selective admissions program. It is a five (5) semester, sixty (60) credit hour program that addresses a high-demand field. Students are prepared to enter the employment market as entry-level process operators for a specialty career in a strong job market.
