Byron Starks, BRCC Head Men’s Basketball CoachThe BRCC men’s basketball team 2023-24 season tips off Wednesday, November 1, for a home opener in the Bonne Sante’ Wellness Center on the BRCC Mid City Campus, 201 Community College Drive.  The men’s team will host Hinds Community College Eagles from Mississippi. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. as a new era of men’s basketball is set to begin for the Bears.

The opening game will be designated as Our Lady of the Lake Health Night to recognize the recent partnership between BRCC and Our Lady of the Lake. Our Lady of the Lake’s logo will officially be displayed throughout the athletic facility for the first time since the announcement of the partnership. The game night will also bring awareness to the recent start of a new construction project for the 92,800-square-foot Our Lady of the Lake Nursing and Allied Health Building on the BRCC campus, only a few yards away from the athletics facility.

“We are looking forward to implementing some of the new additions and changes we made from the previous year,” said Director of Athletics Brock Kantrow. “We believe we have solidified our coaching staff with Byron Starks, one of the best head coaches in the nation at this level, and we’ve developed a strong support staff to assist with player development. Also, we’re excited about the partnerships we’ve developed that will extend beyond just athletics and will filter into the community.”

BRCC previously announced Starks as the new head men’s basketball coach in July. As head coach, Starks led his teams to four conference titles and was named the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches (LABC) Junior College Coach of the Year four times. He has an overall college record of 84-33 and an impressive 39-6 mark in conference play. In addition to hiring Starks, BRCC announced former LSU basketball head coach John Brady as a Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Brady will also play an active role in providing guidance and mentorship to the student-athletes helping them excel academically and personally while instilling valuable important life skills that extend beyond the basketball court.
