Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is excited to announce the launch of a new course, "Spanish for Healthcare Workers," set to begin in January 2024. The program is designed to equip medical professionals and patient support personnel with essential Spanish communication skills, in response to the growing needs of the Spanish-speaking community.

As part of BRCC's commitment to professional development and workforce up-skilling throughout the Capital Region, this course will provide participants with the tools to offer culturally sensitive, accurate, and professional patient support. The course is crafted to facilitate real-world application, featuring a curriculum that includes medical terminology, grammar, conversational phrases, and cultural competencies tailored for a healthcare setting or situation involving native Spanish speakers.

“BRCC is proud to extend this workforce course to all healthcare workers and organizations aiming to elevate their service quality and patient engagement,” said BRCC Dean of Liberal Arts Rhett Poche. “Communication is key in delivering effective healthcare. With our Spanish for Healthcare Workers course, we are helping to bridge the gap between healthcare professionals and the Spanish-speaking community, ensuring companies can deliver the care and understanding that patients deserve.”

The course offers a flexible learning structure, accessible over four weeks through an asynchronous online format, with optional Zoom meetings for direct interaction with instructors. Open to all individuals, regardless of their level of Spanish proficiency, the course is priced at $450 per participant, which includes all necessary online training materials.

While the “Spanish for Healthcare Workers” course allows companies and employees to address language barriers in healthcare settings, it also shows BRCC's dedication to fostering inclusive care environments. By enabling healthcare workers to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients, BRCC is setting a new standard for patient-centered care in the region.

BRCC also offers customizable solutions for healthcare organizations looking to train cohorts of employees, providing a tailored educational experience that aligns with organizational objectives and enhances team cohesion through shared learning experiences.
