Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne delivered the commencement address.Baton Rouge Community College conferred more than 700 degrees for graduates who completed their studies during the Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony held at the Raising Canes River Center, 275 S. River Rd.

“Today was a wonderful celebration of our students and the tremendous dedication they have shown in completing their studies this past year, and earning their degrees,” said BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith. “The entire BRCC community is extremely proud of them, and we wish them the best as they enter this next phase in their journey.”

Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne delivered the commencement address. Dardenne encouraged the graduates to not neglect the future opportunities that will be presented to them.

“Today marks the beginning of a destination that you now control,” said Dardenne. “The fact that you have worked for and obtained the degree that you’re receiving today has prepared you to chart your own course for the future. You will be looking for work. It’s a ticket to the land called opportunity.”

Dardenne added, “In a state that desperately needs trained, educated workers, there are no limits on your dreams and aspirations. Just as there are no limits or limitations whatsoever on the progress that our state needs and deserves.”

During the ceremony, nine dual enrollment students from GEO Next Generation High School earned their associate degree as well. BRCC and GEO Next Generation strengthened their partnership this past year through the expansion of the Early College Program. The high school students attended classes on the BRCC Mid City Campus during the fall and spring semesters.
