Social Science is a major category of academic disciplines, concerned with society and the relationships among individuals within a society. It includes the fields of anthropology, geography, history, political science, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, and paralegal studies. Through its programs and academic study, the Social Sciences and History Department at Baton Rouge Community College promotes excellence by offering an outstanding teaching and learning environment in which students can develop an understanding of the diverse cultures and societies of today’s constantly changing world.
Whether you are interested in an associate’s degree, a certificate in your field, workforce training or transferring to a four-year university, or you just want to take some classes for your own personal satisfaction, the Department of Social Sciences and History has a program to suit your career goals.
The Department of Social Sciences and History also supports many of the General Education requirements of other programs across the College. We provide general education courses in the areas of social sciences and history to assist students in meeting all of their educational goals.
Associates of Arts, Louisiana Transfer Degree in the Social Sciences
If you are considering a major in one of the Social Sciences upon transferring to a college or university, we offer you a direct path to accomplishing that goal with the Associates of Arts, Louisiana Transfer Degree. By completing your first two years at Baton Rouge Community College with a curriculum that will provide a smooth transfer to Louisiana's four-year colleges and universities, students can enter into college classified as a junior. The Associate of Arts, Louisiana Transfer Degree in Social Sciences provides students with the foundational knowledge necessary to continue their education in pursuit of a four-year degree in the social sciences.
