What is Dual Enrollment?
It is a program that allows eligible high school juniors and seniors, currently attending East Baton Rouge Parish public schools, to concurrently enroll in a college course at Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC). The credits that students earn will be used toward both a high school diploma and are acceptable toward a college associate degree, and/or certificates.

What are some of the benefits of Dual Enrollment?

• Open admissions and no prerequisites are required.
• Enriches the course opportunities for high school students.
• Shortens the time to attain a college degree.
• Saves students and parents money.
• Provides students with college credit that is transferable to a four-year college or university.
• Provides a wider range of course options for high school students.
• Promotes rigorous educational pursuits and encourages lifelong learning.
• Grades earned through dual enrollment will become part of the students’ permanent college transcript.
• High school juniors and seniors can earn up to 24 college credits upon completion of high school.
• Access to BRCC’s Academic Learning Center and Library.

Who is eligible for the Dual Enrollment program? Students who have:

• Have a minimum 2.0cumulative grade point average (weighted/unweighted)
• Have accumulated a minimum of 14 Carnegie units
• Earn a “C” or better average in each dual enrollment course and complete the course in good standing
• Permission from their parent/guardian, high school principal and counselor.
• An understanding that the amount of work necessary to succeed in dual enrollment courses will be greater than in high school courses.

Are all college courses available for dual enrollment?
No, there are some restrictions on the choice of courses:

• East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, West Baton Rouge Parish Schools and Baton Rouge Community College have agreed on a number of courses that are available for dual enrollment.

When and where are dual enrollment courses taken?

• The courses may be taken during the day at your high school, or after school at BRCC.

Who pays the college tuition for the Dual Enrollment program?

• Students and their parents or guardians are responsible for the tuition and fees themselves.
• Scholarship money may be available to assist with tuition, fees, and textbooks.

Who pays for the textbooks?

• Students must pay for their own textbooks. Scholarship money may be available to assist with textbooks.

What is the Dual Enrollment application process?

• Students must submit a BRCC Application Packet, which must include signatures of the student, parents/guardian, counselor, and high school principal.
• All forms should be submitted to BRCC’s Office of Enrollment Services or high school counselor of the high school the student attends in advance of the requested term of enrollment.
• A new dual enrollment form must be submitted for each term enrolled.

What are the benefits of Dual Enrollment to the community?

• Improving cooperation and communication between public schools and community colleges.
• More qualified, highly educated workforce to strengthen community and demographic needs.
• Strengthen partnerships with business and industry.
