Certified Pharmacy Technician - NEW DAY PROGRAM
Pharmacy Technicians are in demand as one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare.
A Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist as follows: Mixing and packaging prescriptions,
Referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, Inventory control and purchasing,
Collecting payment and coordinating billing.
This program is designed to prepare graduates for the Certified Pharmacy Technician
Exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Students are required
to complete 600 hours of guided clinicial practice after certification in order to
meet the Louisiana State Pharmacy Board of Registry qualifications to be licensed
in Louisiana. Students are not guarenteed externship placement by BRCC.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician
Over the course of the program, students will:
- Gain exposure to on-the-job duties that include drawing blood samples from patients producing quality laboratory results
- Gain trust and confidence of patients in a simulated hospital/clinic environment, with real hands-on practice.
Upon successful completion of course, students will be prepared and eligible to take the CPT exam from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Students are responsible for performing 30 successful venipunctures and 10 successful capillary sticks on live individuals in order to sit for the NHA exam. Students are not guarenteed externship placement by BRCC.

Medical Billing and Coding - Certified Professional Coder
The Medical Billing and Coding Program prepares students for employment in long-term
care facilities, home health agencies, hospitals, dental clinics and many other health
related entities. Certified Professional Coders (CPC) review and interpret the health
records and maintain close communications with health care providers, supporting efficient
health care documentation and revenue cycles. At the end of the course students will
bet prepared to take the AAPC CPC certification exam.
Before being accepted into and starting this program you are required to take a FREE online Medical Terminology course (can be completed in one day) and present the certificate of completion on the first day of class to the instructor. You will need access to a computer at home for assignments and study material. If you do not have a computer at home, there are computers at the Acadian Campus that are available for use during the day.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Boot Camp
The CPC Boot camp is designed to review and summarize fundamentals and Medical Billing and Coding skills that are needed to successfully pass the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) CPC exam. This is an intense two-week course (Monday-Thursday) from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm that is conducted in-person on the Acadian Campus.
In order to be accepted into this class you must provide proof that you have successfully completed an approved Medical Billing and Coding course (either by transcript or certificate of completion) before the first day. Students will be required to bring the following with them to class: ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding books. If you do not have the latest versions of these books, you can purchase them from BRCC Workforce at cost (contact the Program Manager for details).

Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist

What an electronic health record system is, what information is stored in an electronic record, and how to input and navigate through patient records.

How to implement a system and understand the importance of these systems versus traditional paper records.

Medical terminology, medical conditions and procedures, word parts and structures related to the human body.
This course is a great starting point for students interested in Medical Billing and Coding. Upon successful completion of course, students will be prepared and eligible to take the CEHRS exam from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA)
CCMA’s are needed in a variety of settings and are an integral part of the medical team that works directly with the Healthcare Provider. The CCMA program provides both classroom and hands-on instruction regarding the role of the medical assistant in the practical setting. Classroom lectures cover the overview of the human body and its system. The hands-on component of this course teaches you skills that will be performed in the clinical environment, such as: EKG, Phlebotomy, Wound Care, Medication Administration, Lab Collections/Testing, Glucometer testing, etc.
Upon successful completion of course, students will be prepared and eligible to take the CCMAexam from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT)
This accelerated examination preparation course includes both classroom and hands-on lab experience. The focus of the training is to prepare students to successfully pass the CMHT examination through the NCCB.
Coursework will focus on care for the mentally impaired and emotionally disturbed persons as well as mental health focused hygiene, basic patient assessment, and dispensed medication administration. Participants will also be trained to lead prescribed individual and group therapies and assist patients with activities of daily living. The exam fee includes a study guide and additional exam preparation materials. Upon successful completion of course, students will be prepared and eligible to take the CMHT exam from the National Career Certification Board (NCCB).

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
This course includes theory, skills lab, and external clinical experience required of general nurse aids in long term healthcare facilities. This training includes instruction in state required clinical skills and a foundational knowledge of caregiving in the long term care facility. Upon completion of this course, students are well prepared to sit for the Prometric proctored exam and competently perform required skills.

Medication Attendant Certification (MAC)
The Medication Attendant Certified (MAC) is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), who has received additional training in designated medication preparation and administration. The primary role of the MAC is administering medications, and he/ she will not have a patient care assignment which conflicts or distracts from his/ her primary role. The MAC's role is completely dependent upon the delegation from a licensed nurse. The MAC cannot function without delegation from the licensed nurse.
