About The Program

TRiO programs were established in 1965 by Congress to ensure equal educational opportunities for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstances. As a result of this commitment, low income and/or first generation students have been able to enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in Americas economic and social life.

TRiO services are available as early as middle school and through graduate studies. Education Talent Search programs (ETS)  are designed to identify promising students while in middle school. Upward Bound programs (UB/UBMS) prepare students to be successful in college. Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) provide information on academic and financial opportunities to adults returning to school. Student Support Services provide tutoring and support services to students as they matriculate in college. Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement program provides graduate school admission strategies and research opportunities to students upon graduation.

The Upward Bound Program at the Baton Rouge Community is a college preparatory academic enrichment program for high school students, ages 13-19, who share interest and aptitude for obtaining a college degree. The Upward Bound Program activities are conducted during the academic year as well as during the summer. Participation in the program allows students to enhance their abilities in order to achieve their full academic potential.
