Dear BRCC Community,
Welcome back to a New Year and the Spring 2022 semester. I hope you enjoyed the holidays!
It is great to be back, and I am excited about the start of the spring semester on Tuesday, January 18. Be mindful that with the start of the semester one week later, our Spring Commencement will now be held on Friday, May 20. The Mardi Gras holiday and Spring Break dates will remain the same.
As we continue to monitor the latest surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the nation due to the Omicron variant, we want to be prepared for any issues it could bring. Although there could be a few challenges ahead, I see this as an opportunity for the BRCC community to build on what we have done for almost two years. I believe it is essential that we keep our students inspired and encourage them to keep pressing toward their goals, dreams, and aspirations. Also, I believe it’s important that we continue to do our part and be vigilant in our efforts to mitigate this virus and keep all our campuses safe at BRCC.
Attached you will find our updated COVID-19 protocols for the Spring 2022 semester. We will be implementing the following preventative measures to help combat the virus in order to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe:
- The on-campus mask mandate will continue, regardless of vaccination status
- Social distancing is encouraged
- Vaccination and boosters are encouraged, for those who are eligible
- Individuals are encouraged to be tested and to follow the detailed procedures if a positive test result is received
- Enhanced cleaning will take place as necessary
Your health and safety remain our top priority and we will continue to do all we can to provide a safe environment for everyone. We will continue to monitor guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, Governor’s Office and Louisiana Department of Health regarding reporting of COVID-19 variants. Remember, the most significant way to protect against COVID-19 is through taking the vaccinations and boosters, routine testing, and usage of masks.
During this surge, we must focus on protecting one another. I strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and receive their booster shot. We will have testing, vaccines, and boosters available for members of the college community on Wednesday, January 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mid City Campus, Bienvenue Student Center, Room 152. The same services will be available on Monday, January 24 and Thursday, January 27 at the Frazier Site. We will continue offering these services throughout the semester. Additional dates will be announced as they are confirmed.
I am very appreciative of the quality work and the extra effort everyone has put forward in the past. I want to encourage you to continue to strive toward making the BRCC community better and watch the amazing results that will follow. We are Stronger Together because of your commitment to each other and the difference we can make together each day.
I look forward to seeing all of you back on campus soon!
Willie E. Smith, Ed.D.
