Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) received a donation of more than $180,000 from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) and the Contractors’ Education Trust Fund. The donation was awarded today at the LSLBC September Board meeting. The donation is given annually to a Construction Management program for selected colleges or universities that meet the criteria set forth by the LSLBC. This marked the seventh consecutive year that the college’s Construction Management program received this donation, and BRCC is one of four schools throughout the state that was awarded this donation.

“We are thankful the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors recognizes the quality programs that we offer at BRCC and continues to invest in the Construction Management program,” said BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith. “We feel honored to be among only a few selected institutions in Louisiana to receive this donation, and it speaks to the consistency of our faculty and their commitment to our students.”

BRCC’s Construction Management program is accredited by the Board of Trustees of the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The accreditation is current for an additional six-year period through July 2027. BRCC’s Construction Management program is the only two-year accredited program in the state of Louisiana, and one of only 15 two-year degree programs around the country that is accredited. The Construction Management program is open to all students and can be completed in as few as four semesters. Students graduating from the program will earn an Associate of Applied Science in Construction. The program consists of 60 credit hours of coursework that includes materials and methods, print reading, estimating, safety, construction law, surveying, planning/scheduling, and project management.

“Our Construction Management program has grown from 20 students in January 2009 to 260 students now,” said BRCC Construction Management Program Manager Gery Frie. “The generous contribution from the Contractors’ Educational Trust Fund will help us further enhance our world-class program. On behalf of our Construction Management faculty, we appreciate their continued investment in Louisiana’s future construction leaders.”
