Baton Rouge Community College’s Workforce Development Division is offering several courses this month including Introduction to Grant Writing, Medical Training, AutoCAD Training, and Technical and Mechanical Training to meet the needs of working people who are interested in furthering or starting their careers, or simply adding an extra skill to their resumes.
The Introduction to Grant Writing course is great for new businesses, non-profit and faith-based organizations that are looking for grant funds. The four-session course will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays – Oct. 29, Oct. 31, Nov. 5 and Nov. 7 – at BRCC’s Acadian site, 3250 N. Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge. In this course you will learn the basics of grant writing, how to create your program and budget, and how to prospect search for the right type of grants. There is a one-time registration fee of $325.
We are offering four Technical and Mechanical courses that will prepare participants for careers in construction and facility maintenance through hands-on learning. These courses are HVAC – Air Conditioning (Oct. 14 – Feb. 5, 2020), Heavy Equipment Training (Oct. 15 – Dec. 5, 2019), Principles of Electricity Training (Oct. 15 – Feb. 6, 2020), and Facility Maintenance Training (Oct. 21 – April 9).
There are three AutoCAD Training courses available with a beginner level course to be held Oct. 14 – Dec. 3. We are also now enrolling for AutoCAD Intermediate Training and AutoCAD Piping Training. Students will be taught to master 2D/3D Computer Aided Design software to create designs used in manufacturing, engineering, architecture and other industries. You must be at least 18-years-old and possess a high school diploma to apply.
We also preparing future medical professionals with quality training and certification at an accelerated pace with four courses to choose from this month. These courses are Pharmacy Technician Training (Oct. 14 – June 25, 2020 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.); Certified Medical Assistant Training (Oct. 15 – May 14, 2020, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.); Medical Billing & Coding Training (Oct. 21 – June 26, 2020, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.); and Phlebotomy Technician Training (Oct. 21 – Dec. 20, 2019, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.). Participants may be able to earn certification in seven months or fewer. You must be at least 18-years-old and possess a high school diploma to apply for any of the courses.
Funding assistance through EmployBR may be available for eligible participants to enroll in Technical and Mechanical Training, AutoCAD, and Medical Training courses.
