Good Afternoon BRCC Faculty and Staff,

Every day we continue to receive updates and information related to the COVID-19 situation. I am confident our BRCC Family will continue to respond proactively to whatever conditions we face.

Next week the college will be closed for Spring Break, March 23 – 29. Only approved essential personnel will report to the Mid City Campus to finalize preparations for our transition to online classes. During this time, all staff members will continue working based on the established COVID-19 Emergency Telecommuting Guidelines. Faculty members who need to finalize the transition of their courses to an online environment will do so as well next week.

Beginning Monday, March 30, through the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester, BRCC will offer online-only instructional delivery to students for the foreseeable future. This includes all BRCC sites housing employees. We understand that some students have limited access to technology, and we will do our best to continue working with students through alternate means to serve them on a case by case basis. However, because of the fluidity of this crisis and our unified efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the use of instructional labs on all campuses will not be available for use by students until it is safe to do so.

Additionally, as we work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the difficult decision has been made to postpone our spring graduation ceremony until further notice. We understand and respect the hard work and sacrifices students and families have made to get to this point, and we will honor this achievement at a later date when it is safe to do so.

As we all work together to do our part in the national effort to flatten the transmission curve of the coronavirus, please continue to follow the advice and guidelines shared from local, state, and national health agencies and officials:

· Practice social distancing (do not gather in groups of 10 or more)

· Cover your cough

· Wash your hands often and well

· Stay home, except for essential needs

Please continue to stay abreast of the latest information and developments. For updates on the state’s response to the coronavirus situation, visit the Louisiana Department of Health’s website. Visit the BRCC website for the latest college-wide information.

Continue to stay safe.
Sincerely,

Willie E. Smith Chancellor
