General Information

The Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 21 at 10:00am at the Raising Cane’s River Center.

The Commencement Ceremony is a formal event. We advise graduates to keep this in mind when selecting their attire. We highly recommend comfortable shoes, as graduates will be walking long distances and standing for extended periods. Please opt for suitable footwear.

Purchase Your Cap and Gown

The BRCC Bookstore has caps and gowns in-stock. Graduates can either purchase their gowns in-person or they can place an online order through the bookstore website. There is a generic size guide for the gowns on the website, but students are encouraged to visit the Bookstore to try on gowns either before or after they purchase their set. Students can  exchange sizes, but they must have their receipt and the cap and gown package that they received initially.

Ceremony Attire

All graduates will wear regalia.  If your gown is wrinkled, it is suggested that you steam it the day before the ceremony.  We suggest that you wear an appropriate seasonal outfit, keeping in mind the weather and that the gowns can be quite warm.  Suggested attire includes:

  • Gentlemen
  • Dress shirt
  • Dark Pants
  • Dark dress boots or shoes
  • Ladies
  • Dark Dress or dark pants
  • Dark Shoes

Unacceptable attire

Jeans, tennis shoes, work boots, flip flops and shorts are inappropriate attire for the ceremony.

The appropriate cap for graduates is the familiar black “mortarboard.”  The mortarboard is worn straight on the head with the point of the cap in the center of the forehead.  The tassel should hang to the left of the face.
