Academic Learning Center

The Academic Learning Center, or ALC, provides all BRCC students with a safe and supportive environment for learning that promotes peer interaction through conversation and collaboration.  The center, be it brick and mortar or virtual, offers a variety of resources designed to help students achieve their educational goals.

The ALC is located on the first floor of the Magnolia (Library) building. For more information about the services we offer, please call the center at (225) 216-8300 once we are back on campus.

Currently you may access our services by joining the course "ALC Online Tutoring and Resources SP 2021" course on Canvas or drop us a line at learningcenter@mybrcc.edu.

New to BRCC?

Stop by our Zoom session to inquire about Canvas, LoLA, Online Classes, Schedules etc. Look for our flyer on Canvas. Access to our Zoom session is through our Canvas course "ALC Tutoring & Online Resources." Can't find it? Email learningcenter@mybrcc.edu for assistance.

How can the Academic Learning Center (ALC) help me?

Free Tutoring

The Academic Learning Center provides *free tutoring* to all registered BRCC students. We offer tutoring in the areas of Math, Science, and Languages. Our writing tutors can assist you with writing across all subject areas and no matter what stage of the writing process you're at.

During the pandemic you may take advantage of virtual drop-in tutoring by accessing our "ALC Online Tutoring & Resources" course in CANVAS. Once you're in the course you'll also have access to tutor availability and schedules. In the near future you'll have the ability to schedule appointments but currently tutoring is available on a drop in basis.

Alternatively you may access SMARTHINKING online tutoring (24/7) via any course in Canvas.

Study Groups

The ALC staff can guide you should you want to set up virtual study groups. You can host these study groups in the ALC's zoom session so that you have access to a tutor. Alternatively, you may also use SMARTHINKING to set up virtual study groups. Guidance on these is also available in the ALC.

Workshops

Participate in hands-on workshops on various math, writing, and study skills topics which will now be offered virtually. Announcements for these workshops will be made on CANVAS.
