Are You Interested in Learning Algebra on a Fast Track?

Mr. Key with Dean Ponthieux, and Ms. Stokes. First student to complete multiple sections

Beginning summer session 2004, Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) will be offering a new approach to completing the requirements for developmental mathematics (pre-, elementary and intermediate algebra). The courses will be offered through the I CAN Learn Education System.
What is I CAN Learn?
It is an interactive comprehensive mathematics curriculum delivered through the computer. Imagine sitting at a desk in a classroom with other students. The lights are low and the only sound is coming from your headphones while instruction is delivered at your own pace. If you don’t understand the lesson the first time, you may rewind and go over it with a cyber teacher. If you feel embarrassed to ask a question in front of your peers, you can receive individualized assistance from your classroom teacher.
Why should you enroll in an I CAN Learn course? Taking one of these courses has distinct advantages, such as:

  • Self-paced, one-on-one learning environment, which allows for completion of more than one course during the semeste
  • User-friendly software
  • Immediate testing, grading and feedback
  • Opportunities to review skills not mastered
  • Guided note-taking
  • Progress charts that indicate a student’s standing in the class
  • Fear of failure eliminated
  • Opportunity to work ahead
  • Pacing guide that determines whether you are covering material quickly enough
  • Instructional delivery through digitally-based, full-screen, television quality video

What are your requirements?
You must test into a developmental mathematics course, possess basic computer literacy, and have a desire to be successful. Imagine what you can do!
