SMALL BUSINESS TRAINING CENTER (SBTC)

The Leadership Initiative

These programs are designed for new supervisors and managers, as well as those who are being prepared for leadership roles in their organizations.

1.       Defining Leadership
What traits define outstanding leaders? How does one develop leadership skills? What are the most common challenges one will encounter as he/she rises to a leadership role? What are the rules of great leaders?

2.       Leadership Styles
This seminar includes an overview of the Directing, Coaching, Supporting, and Delegating Styles. Also includes Levels of Empowerment.

3.       Communication Skills
Course includes active listening skills, body language, tone, vocabulary, and two-way communication basics.

4.       Power Writing
Class covers professional writing basics, including reports, memos, emails, letters, and other written communications.

5.       Performance Management
This class includes the three main areas of performance management – work description and planning, project tracking and monitoring, and evaluation and appraisals.

6.       Human Resources Management
Course includes an overview of human resources subjects including legal interviewing, counseling and corrective action, terminations, workplace harassment, and violence.

7.       Time Management
This seminar will instruct attendees on the effective use of planners, time management tools, and effective time-savers in the workplace.

8.       Project Management
In this session, attendees will take a project from concept to complete project plan in a hands-on training experience.

9.       Coaching & Mentoring
Coaching and mentoring programs are creating stronger workforces throughout the business world. This seminar will focus on creating coaching opportunities and mentoring relationships.

10.   Conflict Management
Conflict is a natural part of the workplace. Avoiding conflict is not the answer. Creatively answering conflict and using the diverse ideas involved to create a stronger win-win outcome is what this class will cover.

11.   Problem Solving
In this class, attendees will practice problem solving through brainstorming, partnerships, and effective negotiation techniques.

12.   Diversity
A diverse workplace is a stronger workplace. Different outlooks and backgrounds are what create new and innovation solutions. Making the most of diversity is the theme of this session.

13.   Knowledge Management & Succession Planning
Documenting procedures and processes, sharing information, and cross-training were once thought to be dangerous because they made employees less “essential”. Smart employees now know that those processes make it possible for them to move upward in the organization.

14.   Using Technology Effectively
Taming the monsters of email, voicemail, computer files and folders, online calendars, and other various innovations can make an executive more effective … and less stressed.

15.   Delegating
This course will focus on the basics of delegating instead of dumping. Subjects will include choosing whom to delegate to, setting them up to succeed, creating control points, using a delegation log, and rewarding successful delegation.

16.   Effective Meetings
This will include the basic components of effective meetings include advance communication, purpose statement, the right invitees, a realistic agenda, correct room layout, effective leadership techniques, public minutes, and an action plan with follow up deadlines.

17.   Teambuilding
This course will include information on the types of teams, team members and their roles, personality types, motivation and reward, and the stages of teams.

18.   Customer Service
This session will include the basics of outstanding customer service for both external and internal customers.

19.   Presentation Skills
This overview covers presentation skills for impromptu and planned speaking opportunities, from design to presentation, and is appropriate for all skill levels.

20.   Continual Learning
Opportunities and ways to reinforce the training sessions of the certificate program, creation of supported mentor relationships, and techniques to share this information with others in the workplace.
