Nursing and Allied Sciences


APPLICATION PROCESS

1.     Standard admission to Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC).

2.     Applications for admission to the nursing program are available once a year during the spring semester (Bienvenue Student Center, Office of Enrollment Services).

3.     Students are admitted to the ASN program once a year, during the fall semester only.

4.     Completed, signed, nursing applications are due by the deadline indicated on application. Late applications will not be accepted (Bienvenue Student Center, Office of Enrollment Services).

 5.     Pay for Nursing Admission Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Bursar’s Office). Exam study guide available in BRCC bookstore.

6.     Submit copy of Nursing Admission Exam receipt to nursing coordinator and schedule date and time to take exam (Cypress Building, Room 236).

7.     Take and pass Nursing Admission Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Testing Center).

8.     Applicants will be notified of their application status by letter.

 

ADMISSION CRITERIA: GENERIC TRACK

Admission to the nursing program is competitive.  It is important to note that simply meeting the requirements for admission to the nursing program does not guarantee admission.  Admission is based on the following criteria:

1.     Completion of BRCC Admission Requirements.

2.     Selective Admission Criteria:

a.     GPA of 2.8 or higher and grade of “C” or higher in 16 credit hours of required prerequisite courses. Courses must be complete by the end of the semester application is submitted:

b.     The number of 16 credit hours of required prerequisite courses (above) completed with a grade of "C" or higher at BRCC.

 c.     Composite score of 75 or higher on nursing admission exam.

 

 ADMISSION CRITERIA: LPN - RN ENTRY TRACK

 

Admission to the nursing program LPN to RN Entry Track is competitive.  It is important to note that simply meeting the requirements for admission to the nursing program does not guarantee admission.  Admission is based on the following criteria:

1.     Completion of BRCC Admission Requirements.

2.     Selective Admission Criteria:

a.     GPA of 2.8 or higher and grade of “C” or higher in 16 credit hours of required prerequisite courses. Courses must be complete at the time application is submitted:

3.     Completion of additional 7 credit hours of required prerequisite courses (below) with a grade of “C” or higher. Courses must be complete at the time application is submitted:

4.     Graduate of an approved LPN Program.

5.     Hold an unencumbered license as a practical nurse in the State of Louisiana.

6.     Have at least 3000 documented clinical hours in a direct patient care setting within the last two years. 

7.     In order to challenge NURS 110 Fundamentals of Nursing and NURS 210 Adult Nursing I courses during the spring semester, the applicant’s work validation form must be submitted to the nursing coordinator by the published deadline (Cypress Building, Room 236).

8.     Pay for NURS 110 Fundamentals of Nursing Challenge Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Bursar’s Office). Exam study guide available in BRCC bookstore.

9.     Submit copy of NURS 110 Fundamentals of Nursing Challenge Exam receipt to nursing coordinator and schedule date and time to take exam (Cypress Building, Room 236).

10.  Take and pass NURS 110 Fundamentals of Nursing Challenge Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Testing Center).

11.  Pay for NURS 210 Adult I Nursing Challenge Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Bursar’s Office).

12.  Submit copy of NURS 210 Adult I Nursing Challenge Exam receipt to nursing coordinator and schedule date and time to take exam (Cypress Building, Room 236).

13.  Take and pass NURS 210 Adult I Nursing Challenge Exam (Bienvenue Student Center, Testing Center).

14.  Applicants must receive a passing score on both the NURS 110 Nursing Fundamentals and NURS 210 Adult Nursing I Challenge Exams before entering the LPN-RN applicant pool.

15.  Students selected for admission will enroll in NURS 212 Mental Health Nursing during the Summer semester.  

16.  We do not have a waiting list for the nursing program.  Applicants who are not admitted must maintain their eligibility and may reapply to the nursing program during the next application cycle.
