Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Deborah Lea, M.Ed., R.T., R. as Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.
Ms. Lea most recently served as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. Her work at Delgado began in 1986 as a Clinical Instructor for the Radiologic Technology Program. Throughout her near 30 year career at Delgado, Ms. Lea worked her way through the ranks, as Assistant Professor of Radiologic Technology, Allied Health Admissions Coordinator, Interim Associate Dean of Science and Math, Director of Curriculum and Program Development, Interim Vice Chancellor for Learning and Student Development, and Interim Chancellor for the college, before assuming her final role there as a Vice Chancellor. She retired from Delgado in 2014.
She has held a variety of committee and association memberships on the Technologist Board of Examiners, the Advisory Committee for the Radiology Program at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and the Advisory Committee for the School of Diagnostic Ultrasound at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Ms. Lea has also held various titles in the professional organization, American Society of Radiologic Technologists, including its Louisiana and New Orleans chapters.
Throughout her career in higher education and technical training, Ms. Lea has authored a number of proposals for the following programs, which were approved by the Louisiana State Board of Regents, Board of Trustees and/or Louisiana Community and Technical College System: Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Associate Degree Program; Fire Science Certificate of Technical Studies; Health Information Technology Associate Degree Program; Occupational Therapy Assistant Associate Degree Program; Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Associate Degree Program; Hospitality Associate Degree Program; Hospitality Certificate Program; Horticulture Technology Degree Program; Horticulture Technology Certificate Program; Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Technical Studies; and Logistics Technology Certificate of Technical Studies.
Ms. Lea has a Masters Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans, a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology from William Carey College - New Orleans, as well as technical training from Charity Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, and an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology from Delgado Community College.
She assumed her role as Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at BRCC on April 3.
