Baton Rouge Community College in collaboration with Praxair, Inc. will host a community event to kick-off its upcoming Skills Pipeline workforce development program that begins in August. The event will be held on Thursday, July 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the William H. Scott Civic Center, 1200 Major Parkway in New Roads.
Individuals who attend the community kick-off event will learn about the educational opportunities and career possibilities for welders in Louisiana. There is also a chance to apply for a Skills Pipeline full welding scholarship offered at BRCC.Skills Pipeline Scholarship recipients will receive all books and instructional materials, a welding equipment kit for required personal protective equipment, funding of fees (varies by program) for AWS credential testing, professional development opportunities, graduation celebration and gift, exclusive career fair to meet potential employers, and a welding jacket from Praxair.
The beginner level plate training course will be offered at BRCC New Roads, 605 Hospital
Road, New Roads. The advanced level pipe training course will be offered at BRCC Port
Allen, 3233 Rosedale Road, Port Allen and BRCC Acadian, 3250 N. Acadian Thruway E.,
Baton Rouge. All courses will run in the evening and no classes are offered during
the day. The application process includes the program application, an interview, and
a confidential drug screening.
Now in its third year, the Praxair Skills Pipeline program, which was developed to meet the strong demand for skilled welders, provides funding to train 100 welders in an accelerated one-year curriculum. The program also provides funds for instructorships, continuing education for existing welders, and professional development opportunities.
