Lieutenant General Russel Honoré To Speak At BRCC

honore 2Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) will welcome Lt. General Russel Honoré, USA (retired), to its Mid City Campus on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m., in the Magnolia Theater, 201 Community College Drive. Honoré is visiting BRCC as part of the college's annual Karen Stephens Science Lecture Series and the BRCC Human Rights Initiative.

Honoré, a native of Louisiana, is known for his efforts to restore order in New Orleans immediately after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He will share with the BRCC community his work with the GreenArmy and his  abiding concern for the well-being of Louisiana and its residents.

Honoré became involved in environmental issues when residents from Bayou Corne, frustrated by the lack of action in the wake of a devastating sinkhole-requested his assistance. He came to recognize the barrage of environmental issues facing Louisiana, decided something needed to change.

The GreenARMY is an alliance of civic, community, and environmental groups and concerned citizens from around the state who are ready to effect meaningful social, political, and environmental change in Louisiana.

The GreenARMY task force addresses a myriad of environmental concerns in Louisiana, including: Louisiana coastal erosion, saltwater intrusion in the Baton Rouge aquifer, sinkhole in Bayou Corne, concerns about drilling in Lake Peigneur natural gas storage caverns, and fracking in St. Tammany.
