Sanders graduated from BRCC in 2009, as part of the college's first nursing class. She came to BRCC following Hurricane Katrina, where she and her family lost everything. Prior to the storm she was enrolled at Delgado Community College, in New Orleans, LA.
"After the storm, I relocated to Baton Rouge to live with family members. I learned that BRCC was offering services for students affected by the storm, so I enrolled and was eventually accepted into the nursing program, " said Sanders.
"BRCC was there for me at a critical time in my life. I am very grateful and appreciative to BRCC for extending to me a financial hand during a very difficult time."
Since graduating from BRCC, Rachelle has received her bachelor's in nursing from Kaplan University, and is eagerly anticipating graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University this December, where she will receive her master's in nursing. She plans to pursue her doctorate in the near future.
"I attribute advancements in my career to the academic and life lessons learned at BRCC. But most of all, I appreciate the personal attention, mentorship, and positive support I received from the faculty."
Currently Rachelle is employed as a PRN at Baton Rouge General Medical Center and Ochsner Health System.
