BRCC Announces 2011 Commencement Speaker

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is proud to announce Grand Polemarch, Dwayne Murray, Esq., as the speaker for its 12th Annual Commencement Exercises.


The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 14 in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center, and the processional begins at 9:45 a.m.


Murray was sworn into office on July 14, 2007 as the 31st Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and re-elected Grand Polemarch for a second term on August 8, 2009.  On September 15, 2010 he was sworn into office as the Chairman of the Council of Presidents for the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s 1.5 Million Members. 


In addition to serving as Grand Polemarch, Murray is an attorney residing and practicing law in Baton Rouge, LA. He is experienced business reorganization and insolvency lawyer and the first African American appointed to the Chapter 7 Panel of Trustees for Region 5, Louisiana and Mississippi.  Currently he is serving his 18th term.


Murray is a faculty member of the Southern University Law Center and the U.S. Trustee’s National Bankruptcy Training Institute.  He is a board member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and is often sought out in complex bankruptcy matters.  He has been involved in over 10,000 bankruptcy cases.


His affiliations include the National Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the United States District Courts for the Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. 


Murray holds the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and obtained his Juris Doctorate from the Southern University Law Center. 


He is married to Attorney Lisa Nelson Murray, and they have two daughters and one son.


The college is honored to have such a renowned and respected commencement speaker.


The college will confer over 350 associate degrees and certificates.
