COMMENCEMENT 2014 FACT SHEET

Date, Location, and Time

This year’s ceremony will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on BRCC’s campus. All guests must be seated before the doors close at 10:00 a.m., as they will not be opened while the academic procession is in progress.

Speaker

Dr. Christel Slaughter is a partner and a co‐owner of SSA Consultants, a management consulting and organizational development firm. Co-founded by Dr. Slaughter, its clients include Fortune 200 publicly‐traded, privately‐held, not‐for‐profit, and government organizations. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and received her Doctorate at 25 years of age from the College of Business at Louisiana State University in Systems Management and Organizational Design. While at LSU, Dr. Slaughter was named to the Academy of Management Doctoral Consortium with the top 35 doctoral students in the nation. At the time of her graduation, she had published 20 articles and cases and presented her dissertation research at the London School of Economics.

Rehearsal

Rehearsal will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center and should last an hour. All graduates must attend rehearsal. Honor cords, guest tickets (5), photography information, and other pertinent information will be distributed on this day. Regalia are not required for rehearsal.The appropriate cap for graduates is the familiar black “mortarboard.” The mortarboard is worn straight on the heard with the point of the cap in the center of the forehead. The tassel should hang to the left of the face.

Attire

All graduates will wear regalia along with the collar on the robe. We suggest that you wear an appropriate seasonal outfit, keeping in mind the weather on the day and that the gowns can be quite warm. Suitable attire includes:

Gentlemen

Nice Shirt(Peferably white collars)
Dark Pants
Dark Dress Boots or Shoes
Attire that is not suitable: jeans, tennis shoes, work boots, flip flops, shorts.

 

Ladies*

Dress
Dark shoes (you will need to negotiate stairs and stand for periods of time – be mindful of heel height)
*It is suggested that ladies bring safety pins to secure the detachable collar and bobby pins to secure your cap.

Arrival/Assembly for Academic Procession

Graduates must arrive in cap and gown promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014. Family and friends will not be permitted to enter the assembly area. Staff members will be available to help direct graduates to the appropriate line-up areas as well as to direct family and friends to seating areas. NO BALLOONS, POSTERS, AIR HORNS OR OTHER PARTY MATERIAL WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE ARENA. You will not be permitted to bring cell phones or purses into the arena. It is suggested that you leave these items in your locked vehicle or with someone in the audience.

Distribution of Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns will be available at the bookstore during grad fest on April 4, 2014 from 10:00am – 4:00pm at a cost of $34.87. If your gown is extremely wrinkled, it is recommended that you steam your gown before the day of the ceremony.

Diplomas/Degrees

Diplomas are inscribed with the College name, degree title, graduates name, and date of award. Your name will appear on your degree/diploma as it appears in LoLA. Graduates will be notified via your BRCC email address as to when diplomas will be available for pick up.

Academic Honors

Honor designations are determined by the cumulative grade point average of all work completed as of Fall 2013. Honor cords will be distributed at Commencement Rehearsal. Honors are recognized as follows:

Candid Campus Photography has been engaged to take your picture with the Chancellor as you cross the stage. You may order pictures directly from the photographer. Specific details will be provided directly from Candid Campus Photography.
