A Message from the Chancellor:

Flu season is currently upon us…as a reminder, take the following precautions to stay healthy:

  • Influenza viruses are spread primarily through coughing or sneezing. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw away the tissue after you use it.
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially after coughing, sneezing, or contact with an ill person. Alcohol-based hand cleaners can also be used.
  • The influenza virus can survive for hours on environmental surfaces (books, doorknobs, etc.) A person can become infected by touching something with thevirus on it, then touching their face. Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • If you are feeling ill (fever, shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, and/or rapid breathing), please go to the doctor. If you are diagnosed with any type of flu, stay at home, and limit your contact with others.
  • -If you are diagnosed with the flu we ask that you inform our office of public safety at 225 216 8001.

Important, current information about this year’s flu season can also be found at the website for the Center for Disease Control at http://www.cdc.gov/

Personal responsibility in exercising precautions is our first, best line of defense against illness.

Sincerely,

Dr. Myrtle E. B. Dorsey, Chancellor
