Albrittons Honor Long-time Family Friend
On April 1, 2005, Michael Albritton, a member of the Baton Rouge Community College Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and his wife Leslie began a four year pledge over four years to establish two professorships with BRCC. The first professorship will be completed in April of 2006 and will benefit the Department of Business & Technology.

Mrs. Hallie H. Box is a long-time family friend who has worked for the Albritton family for 48 years. She first began working for A. Stirling Albritton, Michael’s father in the late 80s. She is currently the executive manager for ASA Properties.

The Albrittons’ gift also qualifies for state matching funds under the Board of Regents Support Fund, which will increase the total endowment to $200,000.

Manships Memoralize Mother
In response to a request made by long-time friend, Janet Boles Crawford, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Baton Rouge Community College Foundation, David Manship, together with his brothers and sister, established a professorship to honor their mother.

On June 28, 2005, David C. Manship, Douglas L. Manship, Jr., Richard F. Manship, and Dina Manship Planche, made a donation to the BRCC Foundation to endow a professorship to memorialize Mrs. Jane French Manship, their mother.

Their gift also qualifies for state matching funds under the Board of Regents Support Fund, which increases the total endowment to $100,000.

The Jane French Manship Professorship will be used to support academic activities including instruction, research, equipment and materials purchases, and faculty improvement within the Department of English at BRCC.

The Manship family’s generosity continues the legacy of giving first established by their father by permanently supporting higher education in our community.

Parents Establish Scholarship to Memorialize Son
Mr. Eugene “Gene” and Mrs. Cheryl Rutter established a scholarship fund at Baton Rouge Community College to memorialize their son, Eugene J. Rutter, III, a resident of
Covington, Louisiana, who was killed in 2003 in an automobile accident while he was a student at BRCC.

As a testament to his life, the Eugene J. Rutter, III Memorial Scholarship Fund was established. In addition to the Rutter’s initial gift, numerous contributions were made by friends and relatives from across the country to enhance the Scholarship Fund.

“This scholarship will provide funding to students, who like Eugene, value a college education but experience difficulty due to learning disabilities” said Mrs. Rutter. When awarding the annual scholarship, priority will also be given to financially disadvantaged students.

“Baton Rouge Community College pays tribute to the life of this remarkable young man whose dedication and commitment to learning lives on through the grateful student recipients” said Dr. Mrytle E.B. Dorsey, chancellor.
