The Student
Employment Program is designed to…
Give you an opportunity for part-time employment while attending BRCC
And that part-time employment offers…...
* Flexible schedule around your classes
* Convenient work locations
* Chance to enhance your work experience
* Pleasant work environment
* Opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills
What is work-study?
The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time jobs to students with
financial aid eligibility. Your eligibility depends on your financial need, other
types of aid you receive, and the availability of work-study funds and positions
at BRCC.
“Work-study” does not mean that you study on the job. Rather, it
means that you work in order to obtain the funds necessary to study at BRCC.
A work-study position is a “real job”.
How
do I know if I am eligible?
You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
for the appropriate academic year. After you are awarded, contact the Financial
Aid Office to be reviewed for work-study eligibility. If eligible, you will
submit an employment application and be placed on the waiting list. Please
note there is no guarantee of employment if you are placed on the waiting list.
Placement is dependent upon interviews, availability of funds and positions.
Career Services, Student Center (Office of Advisement) has job listings for
students who are not eligible for work-study or who are looking for jobs in
the community.
What
are some of the benefits of work-study?
• You have the convenience of having a job on
or near the campus.
• You can arrange your work schedule around your classes.
• You earn extra money to help meet your cost of attendance
• You acquire job skills you can use after graduation.
What
kinds of jobs are available?
Work-study jobs are available in many on-campus offices and Labs. There are also
several off-campus positions. A background check may be necessary at no cost
to you.
How
much will I earn?
The salary for on-campus positions is $7.50 an hour, and $8.15 for off-campus
positions. The number of hours you work will depend on your eligibility but would
be no more than 20 hours per week. You will receive a paycheck every two weeks
for the hours that you worked.
