eLearner Support

Even though distance learners typically cannot take advantage of our face-to-face services in the Center, the ALC provides support in a variety of ways. eLearners who wish to submit questions or seek assistance from a tutor can utilize Smarthinking, and those who want to work independently to improve knowledge or practice skills can access PLATO PLE and the Online Learning Center.

Online Tutoring with Smarthinking

Smarthinking offers online synchronous and asynchronous tutoring in a variety of subject areas some of which include math, science, foreign languages, statistics, accounting, economics, and computer science. Smarthinking also offers writing assistance in all subject areas including foreign language writing assignments. You can choose to participate in drop-in tutoring, schedule an appointment with a tutor, submit offline questions, and access a variety of online academic resources. Should you exceed the 10 hours per year allotment, you may purchase additional hours as needed. In order to take full advantage of your time on Smarthinking, we recommend that you contact a staff person to identify which Smarthinking options will best meet your needs.

To access Smarthinking or find additional information about this service, you will find the link on Canvas.

If you are looking to review concepts, strengthen your knowledge, or practice skills, PLATO PLE provides self-paced web tutorials that can be used to complement your current coursework. PLATO PLE offers tutorials in a wide range of subjects including math (through calculus), English, reading, biology, chemistry, and physical science. You can access these tutorials anytime, anywhere without any limitations of services.

If you are interested in using PLATO PLE as a resource, we encourage you to speak with both your instructor and an ALC staff person to discuss PLATO PLE and gain access to the service.
