| We
live in a technological age where our students are often easier
to reach and to teach through computers than in person. We can
now bridge that gap with an exciting opportunity for our students
to receive ten (10) free hours of tutoring each semester in math
(basic-calculus), economics, statistics, chemistry, and writing
in any course. BRCC has entered into a contractual agreement with
SMARTHINKING to provide online tutoring to BRCCstudents. Students
can now go online anytime to receive this assistance. Consider
using the following implementation strategies to help your students
use SMARTHINKING effectively.
| Implementation
Strategies
- Tell
your students that Smarthinking is now available only
through Blackboard. They can click on any subject on their
personal page. Under links, they should select Tools and
scroll down the page to the Smarthinking link. No password
is needed. Students simply click the option button to
skip log-in. Students may also find that once they click
on Smarthinking, they enter the service directly without
any further log-in.
-
Demonstrate relevant areas of the service.
-
Encourage your students to use SMARTHINKING.
-
Provide the ALC phone number to students: 216-8300 for
assistance.
-
Remind your students to go to the ALC website and register.
-
Encourage them to write more than one draft of a writing
assignment by having them submit a first draft to SMARTHINKING.
-
Give extra credit to students who use SMARTHINKING.
-
Remind them that SMARTHINKING is available during late-night
hours and off campus on any computer with Internet access.
-
Require students with low grades to visit SMARTHINKING
and show you a copy of their interaction with tutor.
